WGS84 coordinates 1

28.10.2004

Submission:

One of the first GPS approaches developed by the USA was into Westheimer Airport near Oklahoma City. This airport has been used for approach development by the FAA for many years.

The approach failed flight check, and subsequent measurement found the approach end of the runway was approximately 300 m from the specified coordinates. The difficulty was that the coordinates referred to the approach end prior to a runway extension.

A current survey and a flight check are prudent steps, for sure.
