Submission:
The Visual Segment Surface in procedure with no-FAF According to the ICAO regulations DOC8168 vol. II (part I, section 4, chapter 5, pt.5.4.6) –"All new straight-in instrument approach procedures published on after 15 March 2007 shall be protected for obstacles in the visual segment".
Considering the ICAO regulation it seems that any approach procedure should be checked for obstacles in VSS, the point is how to proceed with in a case where the procedure does not have a FAF. With no approach angle promulgated (depending on rate of descent in final) and thus no possibility of calculating VSS slope?

Answer or Commentary:
I.W.I personally would calculate the nominal descent rate and use that. Usually the nominal or recommended descent rate is also published on the chart in the profile section.
Any thoughts from anyone else?
