I have a question regarding fix tolerances. When we have one segment with two tolerances (for example IF and FAF) what area does one check for obstacles? There are the rules in PANS OPS Chapter 2 2.8.2, which is illustrated in fig. III-2-9.
I understand that one should check the obstacles in the fix area and then from the intermediate segment area to the nominal FAF. Why does one take into account the fix tolerance area only and not the entire width of the relevant portion of the intermediate segment area up to initial boundary of the fix tolerance area (i.e. the red line)?
