Pans-Ops vs Terps 3

16.03.2007

Submission:

One important difference between Pans-Ops and TERPS is the ILS.

Flying a TERPS ILS, one can deviate up to a full scale deflection on the Course Deviation Indicator (CDI) before a missed approach must be initiated. Flying a Pans-Ops ILS, one must initiate a missed approach with more than half a scale needle deflection. This is due to the TERPS larger obstacle clearance areas. But also the angle of bank (AOB) used, there are differences; Pans-Ops generally calculates with 15 degrees AOB for departures and missed approaches, whereas TERPS uses a standard rate/25 degrees. And the speed regime during the different procedure segments are more strict for Pans-Ops.
