Multiple turns 3

28.10.2004

Submission:

One question about the answer to multiple turns 2 , I.W in your answer, to determine the protection areas you use the initial approach segment criteria, like it be an straight segment and I think it may be protected like a base turn ( in accordance with Doc 8168 Vol II attached C to Part III), but I don't know how to connect the base turn protection area and the inbound track (in which we use another navaid).

One more question, in accordance with Doc 8168, which aircraft do you consider category E?

Yes you can use the base turn criteria but I personally refer to the green pages section - "Attachment K to Part I11 - REDUCTION OF THE WIDTH OF A STRAIGHT INITIAL APPROACH AREA AFTER THE IAF AND INTERFACE BETWEEN STRAIGHT INITIAL APPROACH AREA AND REVERSAL PROCEDURE AREAS".

This section only deals with tracking towards a navigational aid not tracking away from the beacon. However I personally feel that if ICAO justifies the theory and the protection areas when tracking towards the beacon then the logic should hold true when tracking away from the beacon as well. The radial area spay is then truncated at the fix tolerance followed by the "c" value. Finally the wind spirals, which one tries to join on to the localizer course area (i.e. the extended D D" lines).

As to category E aircraft, I consider them to be military jets as most civil aircraft do not fly at these speeds.

I would appreciate any comments from the silent majority out there (there are now over 150 of you all on the discussion list from as many countries).)
