Missed approach wording

28.10.2004

Submission:

This question regards the wording of a missed approach. Is it :

At MAPT climb on 050° to 2500 ft. Passing 1100 ft, turn left track 307° to intercept RE-340 to enter the ZZZ holding pattern or as directed by ATC.

Or should the "1100 ft" be mentioned first:

At MAPT climb on 050° to 1100 ft, turn left track 307° to intercept RE-340 to enter ZZZ holding pattern at 2500 ft or as directed by ATC.

Are both wordings correct?

I don't think there are any rules laid down by ICAO concerning the missed approach text. Usually the text follows the order of the actions that a pilot should carry out. I personally would prefer the first text example as it follows chronologically more closely the actions to be taken. The pilots first action should be to commence a climb to 2500 ft not commence a climb to only 1100 ft. In my opinion the first text is also less open to misinterpretation (i.e. stopping the climb off at 1100 ft). Any thoughts on the matter from pilots?)
