MDA or DA 4

28.10.2004

Submission:

A note for the discussion about turning before the MAP on a go-around:

According to DOC 8168 3.2.7.2 (found in the Jeppesen Man. ATC page 216) the missed approach is assumed to be initiated not lower than the DA/H, or at a specific point in a non-precision approach (MAP) not lower than the MDA/H. And DOC 8168 3.2.7.5 "it is expected that the pilot will proceed to the MAP and then follow the missed approach procedure, in order to remain in protected airspace". I learned and I understand clearly, that in the case of an early missed approach, I have to initially fly to the MAP (on a precision approach towards the MA point, which is equal to the DA/H) before I start any turn according to the missed approach procedure.
