MDA or DA 3

Submission:

I cannot see how pilots can treat MDA as a DA if it is not authorized in the FOM. Going below MDA without the runway (or lights, etc.) in sight is a clear violation of FAR 91.175, and could be dangerous, since obstacle clearance is not assured.

I'd sure suggest not going below MDA if a FAA person is riding in the jump seat, or if you are taking a check ride with the FAA. The procedure is a clear violation of the reg, and not smart for terrain clearance, either.
