ILS crossing altitudes 1

28.10.2004

Submission:

If the ILS-glide path is correctly set within the tolerances (today an error of <0.01° is possible) the actual height of the aircraft above the OM is statistical. After having established on the GP the aircraft may be in a funnel around the GP in the order of lets say 1 dot (20% of the full width assuming 5 dots). The deviation angle can +-0.24*3°=+-0.72° assuming 3° GP. Height above the OM can be +-89m. Autopilots may be more accurate. I think the discussed figures in the comment of Mr. Scholes are much less the figures mentioned here. One should consider also that Annex 10 is specifying a "flying through distance" through the beams of the markers. So, the antenna pattern as well as the radiated power has to be adjusted to meet the specs.
