ICAO annex 14 departure surface

03.10.2006

Submission:

How does one derive the Annex 14 take-off climb surface for turning departures as described in Annex 14 Para 4.1.29?

Mr. Lucas - Malaysia

Answer or Commentary:

Here is the offending paragraph:

“4.1.29 In the case of a take-off flight path involving a turn, the take-off climb surface shall be a complex surface containing the horizontal normals to its centre line, and the slope of the centre line shall be the same as that for a straight take-off flight path.”

I must admit that I was a bit confused when I read it but I think what it means is as per the attached diagram.

Does anyone else with more experience in this area have different interpretations of this paragraph?)
