GNSS amendment
28.10.2004
Submission:
The design criteria for the missed approach segment of a GNSS approach were modified in PANS-OPS amendment 11. However, looking at the interim amendment and the final amendment, there was a significant change made to the turning missed approach diagram (currently Fig III-33-4) between April 2001 and Nov 2001. The problem occurs after the turn is complete on an unspecified track to the MATWP or MAHWP. At this stage the obstacle clearance area splays at an angle of 15° measured:
(a) (interim amendment) from the a line tangential to the outer wind spiral and parallel to the nominal track to the WP
(b) (PANS-OPS page 3-174) from a line tangential to the outer wind spiral and the furthermost outer edge of the WPDE.
Departure procedures essentially use methodology (a). Depending on the methodology used, the obstacle clearance areas can vary considerably. Anyone have nay comments?
