Baro VNAV 3

05.10.2010

Submission:

The basic concept was that the lateral and vertical elements of the baro-VNAV procedure design are independent. The LNAV FAF is replaced by the baro FAP (which can move with temperature), and the LNAV MAPt is replaced with the intersection of actual VPA with the OCA/H (again temperature dependent). Changes under review include relocating the Z surface origin to a standard 1800 m after threshold and replacing the non-precision calculation with the hma-ha concept of the ILS criteria. It would be nice to replace the side surfaces with the ILS OAS X and Y surfaces, lowered by a suitable reduction in their "C" constants, thus making ILS, APV and Baro VNAV have a common basis, but that may be a step too far at this time. But who knows, it could happen!
