A380 and the ILS

22.02.2011

Submission:

According to PANS-OPS aircraft in holding bay or in taxi holding position at a range between threshold and –250 with a maximum height above the threshold of 22m may be ignored in the ILS OCA/H calculations.

The height of an A380 is 24m. Is there any mitigation for that case or should the A380 be accounted for as a critical obstacle?

I think it should be taken into account as an obstacle.

However I think that the IFPP should look into this with the possibility of determining a new distance for taxiing and holding specifically for the A380.

Also I wonder,  is the height loss for the A380 the same as for a Category D aircraft?
