3D software

25.10.2004

Submission:

Now a days, there are many Pans-Ops software on the market, all showing three dimensional obstacle surfaces.

Pans-Ops itself has a diagram of such surfaces. However the text in Pan-Ops contradicts this diagram and so great care should be taken when using such three dimensional surfaces to assess obstacle penetration.
In some cases a three-dimensional obstacle surface will show an obstacle beneath the obstacle protection surface while the Pans-Ops text criteria will show penetration of the obstacle surface. This situation is possible when using the area for a radial splay and an obstacle in the secondary area. Due to the way that the radial area splays the three-dimensional surface must have two slopes. Which is not allowed for in the Pans-Ops text. Your comments please.
